Meet The New Contributors

One of the amazing things about being an Amerks fan is that the team has a vibrant and engaged community. Twitter is a great way to stay engaged with up-to-the-minute updates and discussions (follow @AmerksExtra!) but there is only so much that can be discussed within the 140 character limit. With local publications like the Democrat and Chronicle shifting away from local sports coverage, the Amerks fan base has been left with few options for more in-depth articles or discussion. I’m proud to announce that Amerks Extra is going to help fill the void by opening up our platform to volunteer contributors! Each new writer will offer their own unique perspective on the Amerks (and the Sabres as it pertains to the Amerks). While we will never be able to replace the work of a dedicated beat writer my hope is that the addition of these contributors will help keep the Amerks fan base engaged and spawn constructive discussion in the website comments and on Twitter. Without further ado, here are the new Amerks Extra contributors:

Michael Donovan (contributor)

I’m a new writer here at AmerksExtra for this 2017-2018 season. I’m a huge hockey fanatic and have a passion for writing and talking about hockey; especially the Buffalo Sabres and Rochester Americans. Amerks Extra allows me to get my foot in the door and begin writing sports columns. I’m excited to share my views and insights of both teams this year. Hope everyone enjoys!

Justin McMullen (contributor)

I’m a freelance sports blogger from Buffalo, NY. I typically write about college football but my local hockey teams have always had my heart, and I’m extremely psyched to be writing about the Amerks and Sabres. Some of my best memories as a child were going to hockey games in Buffalo and Rochester.
Justin also manages a new University at Buffalo sports blog called buffalobullseye.com, set to launch in October 2017.

Erick Mock (contributor, comments moderator)

This is my first year as a contributor to Amerks Extra. I am originally from the Buffalo area and have been a Sabres fan for many years. I have been living in the Rochester area for over 12 years and am currently in my 7th year as an Amerks season ticket holder. I am looking forward to sharing my observations and discussing what I hope will be a much improved team this season.

Christopher Roesch (contributor)

I am a life-long Amerks fan, and long-time season ticket holder. One of the things that made the good seasons better and the bad seasons bearable was the great coverage of our team, led by Kevin Oklobzija for 30+ yrs. Since the D & C let Kevin go (and even before that, often cut back on reporting on the Amerks), I was frustrated and angry that our team, with its proud history and loyal fans, was in effect told by local media that they didn’t matter. While Kevin O can’t be replaced, I hope to be able to contribute enough to help fill the void.
